between 7/2006 and 6/2007, the state's low-income weatherization program reduced carbon emissions in the state by more than 27,000 tons through 9,223 units being weatherwized.
The program, called Home Energy Plus, reduces carbon emissions through the installation of energy-efficient improvements in low-income households.
"The weatherization program is an important part of Wisconsin's role as a leader in energy policy," Doyle said. "Weatherized homes are more energy efficient, safer, more comfortable and ease the burden of rising energy costs on hard-working Wisconsin families. Equally important, the weatherization program creates high-quality green jobs right here in the state."
Efficiencies were created by adding insulation to homes and replacing older refrigerators and heating units. According to recent federal estimates, newly weatherized homes can save low-income families an average of $413 in reduced first-year energy costs.
